Marcus Gauntlett biography
Having won first place in a regional DJ competition in June of 2001, just a week after buying his first pair of decks, Marcus knew a career in music was for him. Two years studying music technology at college plus hundreds of parties and gigs later he was ready!!!
Since his humble beginnings, Marcus has since Dj-d all over the world for the biggest nights including Godskitchen, Slinky, Ministry of Sound as well as DJ sets at Glastonbury and on national radio shows. He has also had a top 40 hit record in amongst his many other releases and remixes plus launched a global club night, Housework………this is his story.
Marcus first made his move into club land by becoming resident for Koolwaters and Slinky, warming up week in week out for the industries finest; Pete Tong, Seb Fontaine, Armin Van Buuren, John 00 Fleming, an endless list which I won’t bore you with!
In the four years Marcus was resident; Koolwaters was voted second best new night in the UK by Mixmag and had countless club of the month accolades from Muzik and Ministry. It also spread all over the world, hosting tours in, Turkey, China, Russia and even Bosnia would you believe!
After developing his skills and really learning the ropes through playing deep progressive house or warm up tech / trance Marcus’ musical style has evolved and matured with him now mainly playing what he would class as, head bopping electro and bad ass house music!
Perhaps better known for his part in two great DJ/Production duos, Top 40 selling artists; LnM Projekt (Hed Kandi) & bobkat (Housework) Marcus has decided to take that step out into the abyss on his own! Its looks like it could be a good move as he is already having his solo productions snapped up (see discography) and is still holding down the head resident spot at his own night, Housework.
Marcus launched Housework back in May of 2003. Since then it has snowballed into a global phenomenon, hosting nights from China to Ibiza and at just over four years old, things are going from strength to strength. The night has boasted some great names including: Seb Fontaine, Yousef, Jo Mills, Fergie, Tall Paul, Lisa Loud, Lottie, James Algate (Godskitchen), Rebekah (Dusted), Mr Pink, Trophy Twins, Futureshock, Tom Stephan, Deepgroove and a host of other stars and was recently given the best club night in the south accolade by DJ mag!
If all this was not enough at 27, Marcus will also be launching his own record label, Workhouse, and clothing line, Propaganda in the coming months.
