Marianna Pizzolato biography

Marianna Pizzolato graduated with honours at the Conservatorio V. Bellini in Palermo. In the mean time she took Lieder courses in Nurenburg with Rosemarie Cabaud and Werner Dormann. Throughout her carrier she had the opportunity to collaborate with Raul Gimenez, with whom she studied in depth her major Rossini interpretations. She is studing with Claudia Carbi. She made her operatic debut in the 2002/03 season singing the title role in Rossini's Tancredi, under the baton of Marco Zambelli, followed by singing Dorina in Cimarosa’s Il marito disperato in Caserta, Antonio Fogliani conducting. She regularly performs in baroque and eighteenth-century repertoire. It is worth mentioning, Vivaldi’s La Rosmira fedele (title role) with the Ensemble Baroque de Nice and Gilbert Bezzina, Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso with the Ensemble Matheus and Jean-Christophe Spinosi at the Ambronay Festival, Cavalli’s Gli amori d’Apollo e Dafne and L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Festival La Coruña under the baton of Alberto Zedda; Händel’s Serse with Les Arts Florissants and William Christie in Caen; Vivaldi’s Orlando finto pazzo with Accademia Montis Regalis and Andrea De Marchi at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris; Händel’s Fernardo Re di Castiglia with Il Complesso Barocco and Alan Curtis at the Teatro São Carlos in Lisbon, at the Festival Dei Due Mondi in Spoleto; Scarlatti’s Il Giardino di rose under Alan Curtis; Ascanio in Alba in Bologna, Ottavio Dantone conducting. She made her debut at the Gran Teatre de Liceu in Barcellona in La Clemenza di Tito, under the direction of Sebastian Weigle. It is also worth mentioning her collaboration with Riccardo Muti, in Cherubini’s Missa Solemnis in E major in Florence, Paris, Munich and Toulouse and in Mozart’s Vesperae solemnes de confessore in Ravenna. She deduted at the Rossini Opera Festival in 2003 in Il Viaggio a Reims (Marchesa Melibea), she soon became a reference artist for this festival where she was back in 2004 for Tancredi (title role), followed by the productions of L’Italiana in Algeri in 2006 directed by Dario Fo and conducted by Donato Renzetti and Ermione (Andromaca) directed by Daniele Abbado and conducted by Roberto Abbado in 2008. She took part in other important Rossini productions such as: Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Bologna, directed by Luca Ronconi and conducted by Daniele Gatti, in Zurich Nello Santi directing; La donna del Lago and L’Italiana in Algeri in Wildbad under the baton of Alberto Zedda. She was in Rome for Tancredi, conducted by Gianluigi Gelmetti, back in Bologna as Isabella in L’Italiana in Algeri, the same role she has taken on in Klagenfurt, in Zurich under Paolo Carignani and in Naples with Bruno Campanella. She was at the La Coruña Festival, in Pamplona-Valladolid and in Cardiff with La Cenerentola Carlo Rizzi conducting and at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège with Il Barbiere di Siviglia, under the baton of Michele Mariotti. She is actually engaged in Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini in Palermo. Active interpreter of the belcanto repertoire as well, Marianna Pizzolato has already sang Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia in Las Palmas and Maria Stuarda (Elisabetta) in Liège. She recently sung: Cherubini’s Missa Solemnis in E major at the Wien Musikverein, Riccardo Muti conducting; Mitridate re di Ponto (Farnace) at the Welsh National Opera; Lucrezia Borgia (Maffio Orsini) at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège; the role of Emma in Zelmira at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. Her discography includes: Cherubini’s Missa Solemnis in E major for EMI; Händel’s Fernando Re di Castiglia for Virgin Classics; L’Italiana in Algeri, Ermione and Vivaldi’s La Rosmira fedele for Dynamic; Vivaldi’s Orlando finto pazzo for Naïve/Opus 111; La donna del lago, L’Italiana in Algeri, Gli amori d’Apollo e Dafne and L’incoronazione di Poppea for Naxos; Cimarosa’s Il marito disperato and Ascanio in Alba for Bongiovanni. Among her future engagements: Linda di Chamounix (Pierotto) in London(that will be recorded by OperaRara); L’Italiana in Algeri in Santiago del Cile and Menorca, Tancredi in Tokyo Alberto Zedda conducting, Madama Butterfly (Suzuki) in Valencia Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Tel Aviv. In the 2010 season he sang the Messe Solennelle by Rossini at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Lucrezia Borgia at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Requiem W. A. Mozart with the St. Louis S. St. Louis Orchestra, Rossini's Tancredi for the Japan Opera Foundation in Tokyo. He has recorded for the DG Pergolesi's Stabat Mater at the Festspielhaus in Baden Baden. She sang La Cenerentola and Rossini's Stabat Mater at the Rossini Opera Festival, and the Stabat Mater of Rossini's Giovanna D'Arco for the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Mozart's Cosi fan tutte for the Teatro S. Carlo di Napoli.
